Dr. Douglas Connelly is a Principal Geochemist in the NERC Strategic Research Division at the National Oceanography Centre and has nearly 20 years of experience in organic and inorganic environmental chemistry. He has extensive EC project management experience, being the coordinator of the FP7 SenseOCEAN project and sitting on the steering committee of the FP7 ECO2 project. He was also the coordinator of the SENSEnet ITN and had leading roles in the Esonet projects MomarNET and AOEM, and the ITN Momar. The main themes of his work that relate to the area covered by the present research project are CCS biogeochemistry and the development of in situ geochemical sensors. Of particular note is his involvement in two CCS related projects; the Energy Technologies Institute funded “Measurement, Modeling and Verification of CO2 Storage (MMV)” project, which aims to develop autonomous technology for the monitoring of marine CCS sites, and the Quantifying and monitoring potential ecosystem impacts of Geological Carbon Storage (QICS).
