Prof Steve Widdicombe is a marine biologist with over 25 years of experience studying the ecology and biodiversity of seabed communities. Steve works at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory where he is the Head of Science for the “Marine Ecology and Biodiversity” group. He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and book chapters. Recently his research has explored the potential environmental issues associated with CCS and has specifically focused on assessing the impacts of elevated CO2 and associated substances on marine organisms and ecosystems. Steve recently led the “Biological Impacts” workpackage in the previous EC FP7 funded CCS project ECO2, as well as leading the “Biology” workpackage in the UK funded project QICS. His role within the STEMM-CCS project will be to coordinate WP2 “Baseline studies for CCS sites”.
